Adding and Configuring a VLAN

  1. Open Network Manager.
  2. Go to VLAN.
  3. Click Add VLAN.

    The Add VLAN window appears.

  4. Configure the VLAN settings.
    1. Configure the general settings.

      Setting

      User Action

      Interface

      Select a native port.

      VLAN ID

      Specify a VLAN ID.

      Important:
      • The VLAN ID must be between 1 and 4094.

      • Make a note of the VLAN ID before completing this process. If the VLAN ID is lost, the network settings will need to be reset.

      Description

Enter a description between 1 and 32 characters.

    2. Configure the IP settings.

      Setting

      User Action

Obtain IP address settings automatically via DHCP

Select to automatically obtain an IP address.

If the network supports DHCP, the device automatically obtains the IP address and network settings.

      Static IP

Manually assign a static IP address. You must specify the following information:

      • Fixed IP address

      • Subnet mask

      • Default gateway

Select Use static IPv6 address to use IPv6 instead of IPv4. When selected, you must specify the following information:

      • Fixed IP address

      • Prefix length

        Tip:

Obtain the prefix length information from your network administrator.

      • Default gateway

      • Important:
        • The prefix must be between FE80 and FEBF.

        • The IPv6 default gateway IP address must be from the same subnet as the fixed IP address.

      • DNS server 1

      • DNS server 2

      PPPoE

Select to specify a username and password for Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet (PPPoE).

    3. Configure the additional port settings.

      Setting

      User Action

      Line rate

Specify the gross bit rate of the physical layer.

      Metric

Specify the number of nodes that the route will pass through.

      Note:

Metrics are cost values used by routers to determine the best path to a destination network.

      Jumbo frames

Specify the size of the Jumbo Frames.

Jumbo frames are Ethernet frames that are larger than 1500 bytes. They are designed to enhance Ethernet networking throughput, and to reduce CPU usage when transferring large files. QNE supports the following MTU sizes:

      • 1500 bytes (default)

      • 4074 bytes

      • 7418 bytes

      • 9000 bytes

      Important:
      • All connected network devices must enable Jumbo Frames and use the same MTU size.

      • Using jumbo frames requires a network speed of 1000 Mbps or faster.

  5. Click Apply.

Network Manager adds the VLAN.

Tip:

To delete a VLAN, click next to the VLAN, and then click Delete.
