Data reduction
QuTS hero supports the following data reduction features:
Feature |
Description |
---|---|
Compression |
Compression attempts to reduce the size of stored files by removing redundant data within each file. Making files smaller means less storage space is consumed and more files can be stored on the NAS. |
Deduplication |
Deduplication is a technique for eliminating duplicate copies of repeating data. Deduplication reduces the space required to store files, and can also be applied to network data transfers to reduce the number of bytes sent. Important:
To enable deduplication your NAS must have at least 8 GB of memory. |
Configuring compression and deduplication
To quickly enable or disable compression or deduplication, go to and then use the toggle buttons in the Data Reduction column.
-
Disabling compression only affects new data. Existing data in the folder remains compressed.
-
Disabling deduplication only affects new data. Existing data in the folder remains deduplicated.
