Updating the Firmware Manually

  • To prevent data loss, QNAP recommends backing up all data on your device before updating the firmware. For details about data backup, see Backup/Restore.

  • Do not power off your device during the firmware update process.

  • Make sure you read through the Firmware Update Requirements before updating the firmware.

  • The update may require several minutes or longer, depending on your hardware configuration and network connection.

  1. Download the NAS firmware.
    1. Go to http://www.qnap.com/download.
    2. Select the number of drive bays on your NAS model.
    3. Select your NAS model.
    4. Read the release notes and confirm the following:
      • The NAS model matches the firmware version.

      • Updating the firmware is necessary.

      • Check for any additional firmware update setup instructions.

    5. Ensure that the product model and firmware are correct.
    6. Select the download server based on your location.
    7. Download the firmware package.
    8. Click Browse.
    9. Select a folder.
    10. Save the downloaded firmware package.
    11. Extract the firmware package file.
  2. Go to Control Panel > System > Firmware Update > Manual Installation.
  3. Click Browse and then select the extracted firmware package file.
  4. Click Update System.

    A confirmation message window appears.

  5. Click OK.

    The device is immediately restarted.


    You can go to Control Panel > QuLog Center > Local Device > Event Log to check if the firmware installation was successful.
